Created out of a personal need

My name is Nikolay, and I am the creator of Finance Ledger.

For more than a decade, my professional world has revolved around data. I started my career in Business Intelligence in 2012 and have since worked as a BI Developer, Data Analyst and Technical Lead, building analytical solutions, data models and reporting systems.

Whatever the technology or the project, my work has always come down to one fundamental question:

How do we turn many different sources of data into a clear picture that helps us make a better decision?

Over time, I realised that the same problem exists in our personal finances.

Bank accounts are in one place. Investments are in another. Loans have their own repayment schedules. Savings, assets and financial goals often live in separate apps, spreadsheets or simply in our heads.

We have the numbers.

But we do not have the whole picture.

And that is exactly where Finance Ledger began.

I built it for myself first

Finance Ledger did not start as a business idea.

It started as a tool I wanted to use myself.

My interest in personal finance, investing and managing capital over the long term gradually came together with my professional experience in data analysis.

I wanted one place where I could see what I own and what I owe, how much I save, how my investments are doing and how my net worth is changing.

Above all, though, I wanted to answer a more important question:

Are the financial decisions I make today moving me towards where I want to be years from now?

That is how the first version of Finance Ledger came about.

As it developed, it became increasingly clear that the problem was not a lack of financial apps.

The problem was the lack of a complete financial picture.

Personal finance is more than a budget

Tracking expenses matters, but personal finance does not end with the question of how much we spent this month.

Income, savings, investments, assets, loans and financial goals are all part of the same system. Decisions in one area inevitably affect the others.

That is why Finance Ledger is built around a simple idea:

To bring together the separate parts of your financial life and help you see the connections between them.

Not just what happened to your money, but what it means for your overall financial position.

Less financial noise. More financial clarity.

Working with data has taught me that the best analysis is not the one with the most charts.

It is the one that shows the right information at the right moment.

That is why Finance Ledger was not created simply as a dashboard with dozens of indicators. The complexity should stay behind the system, leaving the user with what matters.

What has changed?

Where is there risk?

How are you progressing towards your goals?

What deserves your attention?

More data does not mean more clarity. The right context does.

Financial data requires trust

When a product works with personal finances, there is something more important than features, charts and technology.

Trust.

Financial data is among the most personal information we can entrust to a system. That is why Finance Ledger was created with the idea that users should retain control over their data and understand how and why it is used.

I do not want Finance Ledger's business model to depend on selling personal financial data or turning the user into an advertising product.

The relationship should be much simpler:

Finance Ledger exists because it creates value for the people who use it.

That is why security, privacy and transparency are not additional features. They are part of the product's foundation.

Technology helps. The decisions remain yours.

Finance Ledger uses automation, data analysis and artificial intelligence where they can truly save time and provide more clarity.

From processing and categorising information to identifying connections and important changes, technology can make personal finance much easier to understand.

But its role has a clear boundary.

To help you understand the situation, not to make the decision for you.

Your money. Your goals. Your decisions.

Where I am taking Finance Ledger

Today, Finance Ledger is already a working product built around the idea of a complete financial picture.

It connects account activity, income and expenses, savings, debts, investments and financial goals to show not just the individual numbers, but the relationships between them.

For me, though, this is the foundation, not the end point.

The next step is for Finance Ledger to become ever better at turning financial data into useful context: identifying important changes, showing trends and helping users understand how their decisions affect the bigger financial picture.

I want the product to develop through real financial situations, feedback from the people who use it and the problems they actually encounter.

I continue to be one of those users myself.

And the principle that started Finance Ledger remains the same:

I am building the financial tool that I want to use myself and that I would trust with my own financial data.
