Understanding your finances

Transfers between your own accounts

How we recognise internal movements across banks and exclude them from income and spending.

What is this?

The mechanism applies to all users and supported banking institutions. It matches only different accounts you own within one Workspace — for example, UBB → UniCredit or DSK → Revolut.

How is a transfer recognised?

The system looks for an outgoing and incoming transaction with booking dates no more than four days apart. In one currency, amounts must match exactly. It uses available bank identifiers and references, and transaction descriptions when supported by enough additional evidence.

  • Different currencies require account evidence and the exact counterpart amount supplied by the bank. An indicative exchange rate is not sufficient.
  • An equal amount or recipient name alone does not prove an own-account transfer. Ambiguous matches remain unpaired.

Does the account name need a special format?

No. Use a convenient name and the correct account type. With a bank connection, identifiers are received automatically when supplied by the bank. The manual form accepts only the last four IBAN characters for reference; these are insufficient for unique identification. File imports rely on identifiers and references in the statement.

What does the result mean?

When an own-account transfer is recognised, both transactions remain visible but are excluded from income and spending. For example, moving EUR 100 between your accounts is neither new income nor a purchase. A separately recorded bank fee remains spending; a movement with an embedded fee is not paired automatically.

What happens to manual categories and payments to people?

Manual categories are preserved during synchronization and matching. For a confirmed own-account transfer, calculations follow the movement type even if its category was set manually. A payment to another person for a purchase or service is spending and should receive the appropriate expense category; the recipient name does not make it an internal transfer.

How do I check an unrecognised movement?

Load both accounts for the same period and check their local account mappings. A normal synchronization may add missing bank identifiers. To recheck older data, use ‘Imports’ → ‘Recalculate all periods’. Missing evidence, different amounts or several possible matches may still prevent automatic recognition.
